A consortium of European companies, lead by Haswell Moulding Technologies Ltd, have formed a new company, Piezotag Ltd, to bring the results of their EC funded research project to the world automotive market.
Haswell and Pera have successfully worked together to obtain business funding to create and enable Piezotag Ltd to complete their commercial system development and testing ready for a market launch early in 2005.
This emerging market is being fuelled by new legislation in the US that requires new vehicles to be fitted with a low tyre pressure warning light as a safety device. Analysts estimated this market at 20 million units a year.
Within this EC Project, Pera created by using ‘cutting edge’, ultra low powered micro-electronic sensor technology, a self-powered tyre pressure monitoring safety system. Major car manufacturers have confirmed that the Piezotag system is the first in the world to be truly battery-less and have called it a ‘World Product’.
