Business improvement training

Our highly successful on site practical lean training programme gives your workforce the skills they need to deliver measurable reduction in your costs and improve your quality and delivery.

The unique quality of our programme is we work with you to create tailored, in-company productivity improvement programmes which not only deliver productivity improvement for your company but also create sufficient evidence for the participating individuals to allow them to gain an NVQ level 2 or 3 qualification.

Blending the improvement project with a qualification outcome means that typically 90% of the our costs are covered by funding from the Learning and Skills Councils Train to Gain programme. Not bad, especially when you consider the average project delivers £90,000 of productivity improvement.

Benefits of the programme are:

Improved quality

  • Improved right first time
  • Fewer quality problems
  • Less re-work

Reduced Costs

  • Less scrap, less waste
  • Lower stock
  • Easier control
  • Fewer wasteful activities

Improved Delivery

  • Reduced lead time
  • Increased on time delivery

Typical improvements achieved include:

  • Change-over time reduced by 47% (improvement)
  • Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) increases of 30% taking the facility up to 85%
  • 60% reduction in waste and non-value adding activities
  • 50% improvement by using 5S (a method for organising a shared workplace)
  • Right first time increase of 32%

Benefits for your workforce:

  • Empowers individuals, increasing responsibility and control of their own jobs
  • Provides knowledge and understanding of specific roles within the lean agenda
  • Enhances the value individuals add to the business
  • Helps improve individuals' promotions prospects
  • Motivates the team through contributing to the company goal
  • Supports the individual in acquiring a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)

The intensive, project-based approach we use also transforms the level of ownership and buy-in from the production staff. By creating cross-functional project teams we ensure barriers are broken down and the organisation rapidly develops a lean culture that continues to drive improvement and competitiveness.

Our programme:

The programme starts with a scoping exercise whereby one of our Lean specialists will identify, with your management team, areas within your business that will benefit from a Lean project. This is then supported by the implementation of real actions which put in place immediate and measurable improvements, whilst also giving the workforce the skills to continuously identify productivity improvements

The programme involves two days of underpinning knowledge followed immediately by a three day workshop. This is then followed by two further sessions each lasting two days to ensure the improvements have been sustained and project targets are met.
